Bred by Robert and Ann-Marie Bruin of Meander Holsteins near Otautau, Southland, Alias began life as one of several embryo transfer calves from a young cow the Bruins believed had something special. Today, he stands as one of CRV's most successful New Zealand-bred Holstein Friesian sires and a reminder of what can happen when great cow families are matched with great breeding decisions.
Well known to farmers for siring cows with high production, good udders and positive fertility, Alias has become one of the most dependable bulls in CRV's lineup over the past decade.
A moderate-sized, dual-index bull, Alias is recognised as a true all-rounder. He combines outstanding protein production with excellent Health and Efficiency, while offering balanced performance across the traits that matter most to commercial dairy farmers.
His achievements have reflected that consistency. Alias was the first 17-code CRV bull of his season to enter the Ranking of Active Sires, debuting at number two. In 2021 he received the Holstein Friesian NZ Mahoe Trophy, recognising him as the top New Zealand-bred Holstein Friesian sire on the April animal evaluation run.
Alias's journey began with a breeding decision made on farm. Robert Bruin selected Meander FML April for embryo transfer as a three-year-old after recognising the strength of her cow family. The flush produced several promising bull calves, with Alias emerging as one of the standouts, which was offered to CRV. Genomics was then used as a tool to confirm his potential and select him into CRV's progeny test team.
