CRV’s newest sales rep driven to support farmers

Sean Hallett

CRV’s newest sales consultant in the Te Aroha and Morrinsville area is driven to support farmers breed better herds after seeing some leave the industry in recent years because of increasing costs and financial sustainability battles.

Raised on a dairy farm on the outskirts of Te Aroha, CRV Sales Consultant Sean Hallett has a deep understanding of the region he now works in and a passion for dairy farming.

Sean joined CRV in March 2024 after seven years with FarmSource, including as a Virtual Technical Sales Representative, helping to bring FarmSource services and support to farmers located in New Zealand’s remote reaches.

He joined CRV looking for a new challenge. He sees the role as a perfect fit combining his love of farming and on-farm expertise with helping dairy farmers get the most from their herds.

Sean says he has seen farmers in his region facing many challenges recently, from extreme weather patterns sweeping from extremely dry conditions to extremely wet, to rising costs in every area of farm management.

“A lot of farmers in the region have been able to skirt the line. But I know of other young contract milkers and sharemilkers who love the industry but have left because it’s become too challenging and not financially viable,” says Sean.

“There are so many different costs and what I like about CRV and what we’re doing is helping farmers breed herds that will help mitigate some of those costs,” says Sean.

“It’s not a quick fix but over time we are breeding herds that are more feed efficient, which helps lower feed costs. Breeding polled herds or those resistant to Facial Eczema can result in huge cost savings as well as drive better animal health, wellbeing and farm bottom lines.”

Sean says he is focused on building strong relationships with his local farmers, understanding their needs, and providing tailored solutions to enhance their breeding programmes.

“I grew up on a 240-cow dairy farm on the outskirts of Te Aroha, so I know the area I am working in extremely well. I love getting out on farm, looking at people's animals and having conversations with farmers around what they like seeing in their animals and where they want to see improvement,” says Sean.

“One of the most satisfying things is being able to sit down with a farmer, understand their needs, make recommendations and then see them achieve the results they were wanting, in their herds.”

He says he has enjoyed the welcoming and supportive environment at CRV and the whole team’s willingness to share knowledge and provide guidance.

“CRV itself has a good community feel and we’re all focused on getting the best results for our customers who are part of our community too. You might get me as your sales consultant, but I come with a large team of experienced people working alongside me to support the work we are doing,” says Sean.
